A Trend of Development of Cosmetic Formula Containing Poorly Soluble Active Ingredients
Kyong Kee-Yeol

Abstract
There are so many ingredients used in cosmetic formula in order to skin protection, moisturization and physiological effect. Among these materials mixed well each other or not. If it is not soluble and/or mixable between materials generally we use solubilization, emulsification, dispersion technique with a surfactant. In order to make formula and provide desireable function the active ingredient should be dessolved into adaptable solvents such as water, oil, alcohol , etc and penetrated into skin. However some active materials like cholesterol, ceramide, phytochemical have very poor solubility in water, oils and polyols. If we use same ingredient and concentration the effects depend on the formula types and compositions due to compatibility or solubility among materials. Hydrotropes and several dispersion systems such as micelles, liposomes, nanoparticles and encapsulations are used in cosmetic formula. This review is discuss to the trend of development of these dispersion systems.
